The famous third generation practicing lawyer as well as an active partner in the oldest law firm ‘Fox and Mandal’ passes away at the age of 88. He has completed his LL.B from Calcutta University and then became a solicitor in 1963. Having working as a solicitor he earned a lot of respect not only from his clients but from many reputed barristers and senior advocates.
He was always indulged in finding legal solutions to the case which other advocates would give-up. He has also acted in the important case of Jit Paul and has also fought the famous landmark case of Sanchita as well as NYK zip case.
He also actively fought for Indian oil corporation cases, Coal India and other public sector undertakings. He was also an advisor to the international companies. The last case where he appeared was on behalf of the Kolkata Metro rail corporation in January 2020 which was related to tunneling in bowbazar area.
He too was associated with the Tea world and other industries and contributed immensely for the growth of such industries. As the name goes Dinabandhu was always there to help the poor and needy people as well as guiding the young budding advocates in the field of law. In the year 2013 he completed 50 years as a solicitor and was recognized by the Incorporated law society Calcutta High Court.
During his service period he made many friends and have got the opportunity to work with eminent advocates of the country like Gouri mitra who was a long serving practicing solicitor in West Bengal, K Parasaran, RC Deb, Milon kumar Banerjee, Kapil Sibal, Shanti Bhusan etc.
Having being expert in legal background he made many friends with the Judges of High Court and Supreme Court. Besides being an expert Solicitor he too was involved as a trustee in Sri Jagdish Chandra Bose and Dr Moni Bhaumik Foundation where he also gave his heart and soul and actively assisted them. Recently he contributed for the establishment of a temple as well as a library in Shantineketan near Bolpur city.
“We are extremely saddened by the passing away of my father. He was not only an idol for us but also for others involved in legal business. It was a great loss to both our firm and legal fraternity”, said Debanjan Mandal, one of partner of Fox and Mandal. He left behind his wife who is a social worker, 3 sons and 7 grandchildren as his legal heir. All the 3 sons are distinct practicing advocates and also an active member of Fox and Mandal.
The news of sudden demises of Dinabandhu Mandal shocked everyone in the firm as well as his own family members. Indeed this is an irreparable loss for the legal industry and for the whole nation.
