Legal sanction to all the temporary measures adopted by courts: says SC

Monday, on 6 th April 2020, Chief Justice of India S A Bobde along with justices D Y Chandrachud and L Nageswara stated that all measures that are being taken to secure the functioning of courts in concord with the social distancing guidelines should be considered to be lawful.

In order to follow the 21 days nationwide lockdown, SC and some High courts introduced video-conferencing to hear urgent matters. It was taken into light and ‘authorized’ by the SC in the wake of the lockdown, to use video conferencing technologies to adopt necessary measures to ensure the vigorous functioning of the judicial system.

Moreover, it was said that the courts shall maintain a helpline in case of any complaint in regard to the quality or audibility and that, should be communicated during the proceeding/ immediately after its conclusion falling. District-courts were also asked by the SC to adopt the mode of video-conferencing and to notify and make available facilities to those who do not have the means to access it.
