Nurses move to SC in the midst of COVID-19 lockdown

The Nurses association from Kerala has approached the Supreme Court saying that the Government has no protocol for such serious infections that posed extreme threats to the life of the paramedics and other healthcare workers across the Country.

The United Nurses Association represented by Advocates Subhash Chandran and Biju P. Raman filed a petition stating that as healthcare workers and primary care givers, they are exposed to a lot of infection and other hazards including pathogen exposure, long working hours, fatigue, physical distress, occupational burnout, fear of infecting their families, etc.

The Association highlighted the lack of availability of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in numerous hospitals and the exposure due to such non availability of equipments. The said petition also included problems that they face due to lack of sufficient testing kits, lack of basic facilities, workers who are being forced to work overtime, salary deductions due to taking leaves or pregnancy, mental harassment.

Moreover, they have strongly recommended that all the healthcare workers working for COVID 19 should be included in the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package. As a Country who is doing the best to prevent the virus from spreading, we should appreciate all the healthcare workers and other people who work relentlessly for our safety and give them the recognition that the deserve for working during such testing times.
