Provide immediate relief to migrant workers:Andhra Pradesh High Court

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday considered the matter relating to migrant workers in the state and their current situation amid Covid 19 amd lockdown.

A petition was filed by Communist Party of India (CPI) State Secretary Ramakrishna to the Andhra Pradesh High Court mentioning the pathetic and inhuman situation faced by poor migrant workers during this pandemic and lockdown.The petitioner asked for the urgent intervention of state government of Andhra Pradesh in addressing the situation of migrant workers who have been walking for hundreds of Kilometres.The petitioner also mentioned that Right to Live is a constitutional and Fundamental Right for any individual under Article 21 of the Constitution of India and it is our duty to safeguard this right of migrant workers who are at the top most verge of suffering.He also suggested a relief package of Rs.10000 for those who have lost their livelihood due to the lockdown and also asked state government of Andhra Pradesh as well as Central Government to provide them with basic needs medicines,food,shelter etc as these migrant workers consists of women,children,pregnant ladies and old age people who have been walking for days.The petition also seeked orders allowing the migrant workers staying back in different parts of Andhra Pradesh like Vijayawada to return back to their hometown within and Outside the state.

The matter was considered by a division bench consisting of honourable Justice C Praveen Kumar and Justice D Ramesh.After hearing the argument,the Andhra Pradesh Highcourt asked the State government to submit a detailed report about the migrant workers of Andhra Pradhesh and their prevailing condition.The bench consisting of justice C Praveen Kumar and Justice D Ramesh seeked the reply of state regarding this matter. The Court also directed the State Government of Andhra Pradesh to provide shelter,food and medicine to migrant workers immediately,that is within twenty four hours of finding them.The court asked for the current status regarding every migrant worker staying back in Andhra Pradesh.

It was before some days that the former Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu wrote letter to Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy to make measures to rescue telugu fishermen and Construction workers that are stuck in Tamil Nadu due to the Nation wide lockdown imposed.More than 2000 workers are stuck in different parts of Tamil Nadu.Also many workers were stuck in Gujarat due to this lockdown imposed in the Country.
